Andrew Farmer – Reform UK Candidate for Stilton & Sawtry Ward
Bringing Real-World Experience to Local Government
Andrew Farmer is a **self-employed consultant ** and proud candidate for Reform UK in the upcoming Cambridgeshire County Council election for the Stilton & Sawtry ward. With a background in business, financial management, and problem-solving, Andrew brings real-world experience that is sorely lacking in local government. As a business owner, he understands the importance of accountability, efficiency, and getting results—qualities that are desperately needed in council leadership today.
A Business-Minded Approach to Local Politics
Unlike career politicians who rely on taxpayers to fund their livelihoods, Andrew has built his own success through hard work, determination, and smart decision-making. As a self-employed professional, he knows firsthand the challenges of running a business, managing budgets, and making difficult choices to ensure success. He believes local government should be run with the same level of discipline, responsibility, and efficiency.
Too often, councils waste taxpayers’ money on bureaucracy, unnecessary projects, and inflated salaries while essential services decline. Andrew is committed to cutting waste, lowering council tax, and ensuring every pound spent benefits local residents.
Key Priorities for Stilton & Sawtry
✔ Smart Spending, No Waste – Residents deserve financial accountability. Andrew will ensure that no money is wasted on unnecessary bureaucracy or ideological pet projects.
✔ Support for Small Businesses & Self-Employed Residents – As a business owner himself, Andrew understands the struggles of entrepreneurs, tradespeople, and freelancers. He will advocate for lower business rates, reduced red tape, and better support for local businesses.
✔ Better Infrastructure & Roads – Potholes, poor road conditions, and neglected infrastructure must be addressed. Instead of wasting money on ineffective projects, Andrew will prioritize practical, long-term solutions.
✔ Stronger Crime Prevention & Policing – Rising crime and anti-social behavior are concerns for many residents. Andrew supports stronger policing, tougher sentencing for repeat offenders, and more community safety initiatives.
✔ Putting Local People First – Decisions affecting Stilton & Sawtry should be made by local residents, not distant bureaucrats. Andrew will fight for local decision-making powers and more transparency in council operations.

Over £750,000 was spent on consultants, including £170,000 on climate change consultancy. Interim staff costs exceeded £10 million, with some temporary staff earning 20% more than permanent employees and staying on for nearly four years. This drains funds that could be used to improve local services.
"Cambridgeshire County Council awards only 10% of contracts to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), while 30% go to national suppliers, draining funds from our community. It’s time to bring spending back home and support local businesses."
St Neots Foot and Cycle Bridge: The council allocated £3.1 million towards a new foot and cycle bridge in St Neots. However, after spending £800,000 on consultants, the project was deemed not to offer value for money and was subsequently scrapped, resulting in wasted expenditure.
Cambridgeshire County Council’s HVO or Hydrotraeted vegibable oil fuel scheme costs 15% more than diesel while still releasing already captured carbon back into the atmosphere. This increases fuel costs without delivering meaningful environmental benefits, wasting taxpayer money on ineffective green initiatives. It was trialled with 54000 ltrs of HVO fuels. Incredible waste of your money. Their own minutes of the meeting say that it will only add 18p a liter.
